Default Harvey rudder install

I am wondering if any one has a good way to install the rudder of the Artesania Latina Harvey clipper. What type of glue for the brass and how do you nail it on. Thanks for any help on this.

There are lots of ways. I would probably postition the hinges, make a small mark where they are, then put a bit of medium consistency cyanoacrylate glue (instant glue) where they will go, then put them in place and hold until the cyano sets. Then I would drill where the nails go, cut the nails very short and put them in place, again with a tiny bit of cyano. The nails in this case are decoration and not structural.

Chime in, fellows!

O.K. My two cents worth....
I had some fun and games with the Bluenose II hinges, they may have been "Pre-Fabricated" but they certainly did not fit, with regards to the thickness of wood on the Stern-Post or Rudder.
I attacked the problem by carefully re-shaping so that the Gudgeons would actually fit flush with the edge of the Rudder, in doing this, I could also re-shape the Stern-Post side of things and be confident that the Rudder would be more or less in line.
I excersised care in trying to retain the loop in each piece that the Gudgeon Pin goes through.

Once happy with this, I CA'd a Brass Pin through the Rudder-side Gudgeons and trimmed to length.

Next, I hung the Stern-Post side on so that I had a complete hinge but did not glue the pin.

Next, I attached the Rudder to the Hinge assembly, the Stern-Post side did not come adrift as it is held in the Rudder hinge slot.

I held the bits, (Gudgeons), in place on the Rudder and drilled some holes with my Pin-Vise, dropped some brass Nails in the holes with CA, (Shortened nails), so my pins or nails or whatever you like to call them were structural.

Once all the hinges were on the Rudder, I carefully inserted the rudder post into the hull, trimmed the gudgeon pieces to fit the Stern-Post and CA'd Brass Nails as per the Rudder.

It took some time but worked out o.k.

Hope this helps.

Cheers....HOF.
