Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

I think perhaps the term "artisan" in your poll should be "artist". To me, the terms "artisan" and "craftsman" are equivalent.

At any rate, I happily and with pride view myself as a craftsman or artisan rather than an artist. And to me, a shipwright is someone who builds ships, not models.

I agree with Mike in the sense of the "artisan and craftsman" being alike. I don't wish to be the kill joy, but Artist is defined as an artisan, which is defined as a craftsman, which is defined as a worker who practices a trade or handicraft. If a shipwright is a "carpenter skilled in ship construction and repair" would it not be true that an individual creating a model from a kit or scratch be all of the above.

Even some "shipwrights" had plans drawn for them and materials cut and delivered as do the artist and craftsman. They all preform a service as well as creating a thing of beauty, or at least to them or whomever may view it possibly.

Good, bad or otherwise we are all...Artists (artisans), craftsmen(and women) as well as shipwrights in a sense. It may be at different levels of quality, quantity and content but we all end up Artificers in our own right.

To all of you, keep up the extraordinary work. Your work inspires others, myself included,to create and enjoy that creativity.

Thanks for the question John.

Regards,
T
