Hello Guest! There's a lot to look over, so sit back with a cup of coffee, relax and browse around. We have a great group of ship and boat modelers here, both newbies and old salts, from all over the world. Our goal here is to help each other, without criticism or rebuke. Both newbies and old salts alike can learn from each other. No one has all the answers. Our most basic rule is simple, respect for your fellow members and their opinions. And don't take yourself too seriously! wirewolf (John, AKA - Cap), Forum Administrator

I was in the Navy from 1967 to 1970. I served as the navigator on the USS Spiegel Grove, LSD 32. She is now an artifical reef off the coast of Florida.

I am a former Marine - 1964 - 1968. The recruiting poster of the time said "TRAVEL? - Join the Marines" and that was what I wanted to do. I enlisted on the north side of Chicago. I was sent to MCRD San Diego (Yes, I am a Hollywood Marine), MCB Pendleton, NAS Memphis (I went in for aviation), NAS Jacksonville - and then I got orders to my "permanent duty station" NAS Glenview, Illinois. If you drove from the front gate of Glenview to my parent's home it was 10.9 miles (I measured it multiple times). I was at Glenview - I & I Staff to two USMCR A-4 squadrons - for 34.5 months. As I tell people, I joing the Corps to travel and I did not make it to Viet Nam, I did not make it out of country, heck, I didn't make it away from home.

As an aside, I know this is supposed to be "brief" but has any one counted the number of years of service from those who have posted? Imagine the talent, the training, the abilities that were garnered during our times of service.

Semper Fi!
